Lighting for oil, gas & petrochemical
Refineries, tank farms, offshore platforms and chemical plants are classified gas areas. Every light that enters Zone 1 needs an Ex marking that matches the gas group and temperature class of the site.
What to check
- Gas group IIC covers hydrogen and acetylene, so an IIC light can be used in any gas group.
- Temperature class T4 (135 °C) suits most hydrocarbons; T6 (85 °C) is needed for carbon disulphide and similar low-ignition gases.
- Equipment protection level Gb means the light is designed for Zone 1.
